BELVIDERE, Ill. (WIFR) – A dedicated caregiver receives a heartwarming surprise Friday as she receives the DAISY award for nursing.

Nurse Nicole Welch was honored at the DaVita Belvidere Dialysis Center, 1751 Henry Luckow Lane, after tending to her patients.

“It definitely warms my heart that’s for sure, and it makes me feel like I’m doing what I should be doing,” Welch said. “It’s good to hear the good things… that you make a difference.”

Diseases Attacking the Immune System, or DAISY Award is a recognition program to celebrate nurses nominated by patients, families and co-workers. Honorees of the award receive a certificate in a DAISY portfolio, a hand-carved Healer’s Touch Sculpture from Zimbabwe and are added to the DAISY website.
